Lusaka Province Health Director Simulyamana Choonga says Government will this year commence the construction of three mini hospitals in Kafue District.

Speaking when he inspected health infrastructure projects under construction in the district, Dr Choonga said the mini hospitals will be built in Kafue East, Chikupi and Chisankane.

He said construction of the three facilities is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services in the district.

“As Lusaka Province, we have been allocated 15 mini hospitals to be constructed across the province, and Kafue District will benefit three from the 15,” Dr. Choonga said.

Dr Choonga, who also toured the construction site of a 1×2 classroom block for Kafue School of Nursing being built at a cost of K1.5 million, as well as an administration block at Kafue General Hospital being constructed at a cost of K1.5 million, said Government remains committed to strengthening the country’s health sector.

He added that the ongoing construction of health infrastructure underscores Government’s commitment to enhancing the delivery of quality healthcare services across the district.

Dr Choonga also commended the Yash Foundation for constructing and equipping a maternity annex at Kafue General Hospital.

He said the maternity annex will not only provide adequate space for mothers during childbirth but will also restore dignity to pregnant women.

And Kafue District Commissioner, Maurice Hikapulwe said the district has witnessed significant infrastructure development in the health sector.

Mr Hikapulwe said a number of health posts have been constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

He noted that the construction of the three mini hospitals will further enhance the delivery of quality healthcare services in the district.

“I want to thank the Government for the continued investment in health infrastructure. The construction of the classroom block for the Nursing School will provide a conducive learning environment for student nurses,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kafue School of Nursing third-year student, Suwilanji Nambeye said the new classroom block has created adequate learning space and improved interaction among students.

“This classroom block has provided us with a better learning environment, and I can confidently say that my academic performance has greatly improved,” Ms Nambeye said.
