The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has reduced the pump prices of petroleum products for the month of August 2026, citing lower international oil prices despite the depreciation of the Zambian Kwacha against the United States Dollar.

ERB Board Chairperson, James Banda, says the Board had therefore revised the national uniform pump prices downwards, with petrol reduced by K0.86 to K25.29 per liter from K26.15, representing a 3.29 percent decrease.

Mr Banda noted that Diesel has been reduced by K1.25 from K28.11 to K26.86 per litre, representing a 4.45 percent reduction, while kerosene has been reduced by K1.30 from K28.32 to K27.02 per litre, translating into a 4.59 percent decrease.

He noted that the price of Jet A-1 has also been revised downwards to K28.71 per litre respectively.

Mr Banda stated that the revised prices will take effect at midnight – July 31, 2026, and remain in force until the next monthly price review.

He stated that the reduction follows a review of international oil prices, which showed that the average price of petrol declined from US$105.82 per barrel to US$96.92 per barrel, while Kerosene/Jet A-1 dropped from US$158.97 per barrel to US$123.59 per barrel.

Mr Banda explained that the international price of diesel remained relatively stable, rising marginally from US$125.65 per barrel to US$126.58 per barrel.

He however, noted that during the review period, the Kwacha depreciated against major currencies, particularly the United States Dollar from K18.35 to K19.01 per US Dollar, a factor that was also taken into account in determining the new pump prices.

The ERB Board Chairman added that the detailed wholesale and pump price build-ups for August 2026 are available on the Board website.
