Zambia : Chipata Election Preps Progress Well

Chipata District Electoral Officer (DEO) Jovax Ngoma says preparations for the 2026 general elections in Chipata district are progressing well.

Mr Ngoma says ballot papers were received last week and the distribution to polling stations will be conducted tomorrow to ensure that the sensitive election materials are not left unattended for a prolonged period.

He also updated that accreditation of election stakeholders is also ongoing and is expected to close tomorrow.

He has assured residents of Chipata that the ECZ is fully prepared for the general elections scheduled for Thursday, August 13th, 2026.

“We want to assure the citizens of Chipata that everything is set in preparation for the general elections scheduled for August 13th, 2026,” he said.

The DEO said the ECZ is encouraged by the high turnout of citizens who have shown interest in participating in the electoral process by casting their votes.

Meanwhile, Mr Ngoma said the South African SADC Electoral Observation Mission is also in Eastern Province monitoring preparations and activities ahead of the elections.

And residents of Chipata have expressed readiness to participate in the August 13th  general elections, saying they are prepared to turn up at polling stations and exercise their right to vote.

Mary Banda, a first time voter says she is excited about voting this Thursday.

“I want to encourage everyone who is registered to vote to turn up to vote, especially fellow young people. It is through the vote that we speak,” she indicated.
