Arc Power Country Director Emmanuel Chilufya, says the project is part of its contribution to the Grow Zambia Agenda.
He disclosed that the firm has partnered with the utility company, ZESCO to put solar plants across the country.
“In June this year, the company signed an agreement with Kiyona Energy Limited a subsidiary of ZESCO Limited to develop solar projects across the country and Chinsali District is one of the selected areas,” Mr Chilufya said.
The country director said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Muchinga Provincial administration today.
Mr Chilufya said land has just been secured in the Industrial Park from the local authority and handed over to ARC Power.
He added that the company will conduct a feasibility study for three months and is expected to conduct the ground breaking ceremony in the first quarter of 2027.
Mr Chilufya said Arc Power is an African company supported by the World Bank through the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating that it pre-finances projects.
He disclosed that the company has an agreement with Kiyona Energy Limited to finance projects up to 60 million US Dollars.
Mr Chilufya said the company’s first project of 14 megawatts is in Chongwe, while the second will be in Chinsali, Muchinga Province.
And Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary, Brian Sichande has described a 10 Megawatts solar power project as a milestone for Chinsali District and the province at large.
Mr Sichande said the investment falls under the government’s Grow Zambia Agenda.
“As Muchinga Province, we are happy to have this noble investment under the Grow Zambia Agenda,” he said.
Mr Sichande said President Hakainde Hichilema is committed to ensuring access to electricity among community members.
He noted that climate change has been affecting power production, as the country largely depends on hydro power generation.
Mr Sichande said government is working hard to ensure solar plants are developed to cushion the power deficit.
The 10 Megawatts solar electricity generation project is under an agreement between Arc Power and Kiyona Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ZESCO.
