A high-level Brazilian delegation representing expertise in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, digital health, clinical research and health innovation has expressed interest in investing in Zambia’s health sector.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Ministry of Health today, Ecosystem Solutions for Health in Africa (ESHA) Chief Executive Officer, Paulo Pan said the delegation was exploring trade and investment opportunities tailored to Zambia’s needs.

Mr Pan notes that Zambia can be an innovation hub in the region for health through mutual partnership with Brazil.

Mr Pan and his delegation will be in Zambia from 28th to 30th September to conduct engagement meetings meant to bear investment results in the health sector.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Lishimpi reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage.

Dr Lishimpi welcomed ESHA’s diverse portfolio in health innovation, pharmaceutical supply chains, biotechnology and digital transformation, noting that it aligns with Zambia’s healthcare priorities.

Dr Lishimpi emphasised that modernising the health system in the country requires embracing digital health solutions to improve data management, supply-chain visibility and service delivery, particularly at the primary healthcare level.

“Enhancing Zambia’s domestic capacities through biotechnology and clinical research is important for long term health security,” he said.

He has since commended the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Mission in Brazil for successfully coordinating the engagement of the two countries and their institutions.

Earlier, representative of the Zambia delegation in Brazil Health Counsellor in Brazil, Chipo Siafwa highlighted that more investors that have expressed interest will be coming to Zambia by the end of the year.

Dr Siafwa emphasised that the mission is keen to contribute to the Grow Zambia Agenda through health investments.

While in Zambia the Brazilian delegation is expected to hold targeted discussions with relevant technical departments to explore specific areas of mutual interest such as discussions with government’s specialised agencies in the health sector like the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA).

Others are the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) and the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
