Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports Group has expressed interest in investing in Zambia’s logistics, fuel storage and refinery sectors as the company explores opportunities to expand its footprint in Africa.

Speaking during a high-level business meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema in Abu Dhabi, AD Ports Group Chief Executive Officer for International Affairs Muhammad Almenhali said the company is particularly interested in Zambia’s potential as a land-linked logistics and energy hub.

Mr. Almenhali said the company operates a global logistics business covering about 75 countries, while also looking to expand its investments into crude and fuel refining.

He said the company is also exploring fuel storage facilities and wants Zambia to consider AD Ports Group in any plans to develop such infrastructure.

Mr. Almenhali said the proposed investments are part of a new mandate from the Abu Dhabi leadership to explore refinery and fuel-storage opportunities in Africa.

And President Hichilema said Zambia’s strategic location provides investors with access not only to the country’s domestic market, but also to the wider SADC and COMESA regions and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The President said there is significant scope for further investment in rail, ports and logistics.

President Hichilema has urged AD Ports Group to use its expertise and capacity to identify projects where the two sides can work together to improve regional connectivity and facilitate trade.
