Zambia : 38 Year Old Chipangali Defiler Caged

The Zambia Police Service in Chipangali district, in Eastern Province have arrested a 38 year old man in connection with the alleged defilement of a 13 year old girl in Nyelele Section area in Chief Chikuwe’s chiefdom.

The suspect, identified as Ives Banda, was apprehended after a report was made at Chiparamba Police Post, which falls under Chipata Central Police Station.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident to the media, saying the incident allegedly occurred between August 26 and 27, 2026, at the suspect’s residence.

Mr Mweemba said police officers received the report from the victim’s 44 year old mother, who alleged that her daughter had been sexually abused by her brother in law.

The Eastern Province Police Chief said the victim had been allowed to assist Banda at his restaurant at Chipitule mobile market after her elder sister, who is the suspect’s wife, requested that she help with cooking duties while she travelled to Mambwe for a church programme.

“The victim later spent the night at the suspect’s house after work and returned home the following morning complaining of tiredness,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said the victim later developed pain in her thighs and waist and subsequently disclosed to her family that she had allegedly been sexually abused.

“The matter was reported to police on September 4, 2026, after which officers, with the assistance of community crime prevention personnel, apprehended the suspect,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said police officers issued a medical report form and the victim was attended to at Chiparamba Rural Health Post.

“My officers have since launched investigations into the matter,” he said.
