Show goers and exhibitors at the just-ended 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show have commended this year’s event for showcasing innovative agricultural technologies, quality livestock and a wide range of local and international products.

Speaking in separate interviews with the media, attendees said the exhibition provided an opportunity for businesses to market their products while exposing members of the public to modern farming technologies, technology innovations as well as investment opportunities.

A trader in books, Jack Musa, said business started slowly during the first few days of the show but improved significantly towards the end.

Mr Musa noted that despite the slow start, the final two days recorded increased customer traffic, enabling exhibitors to recover some of their sales.

He, however, expressed concern over the declining reading culture in the country, attributing the trend to the growing influence of social media.

According to Mr Musa, he suggested that the government should consider establishing libraries in every school, both public and private, to encourage learners to develop a reading culture from an early age.

Other exhibitors interviewed by the media also expressed satisfaction with business performance, saying they realised significant profits during the exhibition.

Both Exhibitors, Show goers, traders as well as musicians and other artists spoken too by the media further praised the security arrangements during the event, noting that the presence of law enforcement officers before, during and after the show ensured a peaceful and safe environment for conducting business and enjoying the exhibition.

The 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show officially closed to the public today and will return next year.

The six-day exhibition, which ran from July 29 to August 3 at the Lusaka Showgrounds, attracted over 1,400 local and international exhibitors from over 20 countries, including China, Czech Republic, Germany and India was celebrated under the theme “Fostering Trade and Investment.”
