Peter Yuda of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) has scooped the Kasama Mayoral seat.

Mr Yuda emerged winner after polling 54, 269 votes beating his closest rival UPND’s Bywell Simposya who obtained 16, 589 votes.

Citizens First candidate Aaron Zimba was in third position with 3, 152 votes followed by Maggie Bwalya of Socialist Party who polled 2, 079 votes.

Kasama District Returning Officer John Mwanza declared Mr Yuda as duly elected Mayor for Kasama after validation of results from all the three constituencies in the district.

A total of 78, 168 ballots were cast with 2, 079 rejected votes.

Kasama District has a total of 157,809 registered voters with 231 polling stations.
