YOUTH CONSORTIUM PETITIONS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TO REMOVE PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS

Even before it could be assembled officially, a murky and bizarre Zambia Youth Organisations Consortium has petitioned the National Assembly to move a Private Members’ Motion seeking to amend Article 106(3) of the Constitution.

Article 106(3) provides that a person who has twice held office as President is not eligible for election as President.

The Consortium says the people of Zambia should have the power, through the ballot, to decide who governs them.

Consortium Vice Chairperson Boas Kanyama says the ballot should be the only instrument through which citizens hire their leaders and also the instrument through which they remove them from office.
