POLICE in Eastern Province are searching for a teenager believed to be between 17 and 18 years old, accused of breaking into a home and raping a woman at knifepoint in Katapa one Village of Katete District.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba tells TV Yatu that the case was reported on August 8, 2026 through Katete Stores Police Post.
Mweemba said the 38-year-old victim reported that she was asleep on the night of August 7, 2026 while her husband was away visiting family.
“Police reports indicate that the victim noticed that the lights were on and upon checking allegedly found the teenager on top of her,” he said.
Mweemba explained that the victim recognized the suspect as a fellow resident of Katapa One.
When she tried to push him away, the victim allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her.
“The suspect allegedly produced a knife and threatened to kill her if she resisted. It is also alleged that the suspect used a cloth to stop her from screaming before the assault,” Mweemba explained.
Mweemba says when the victim reported the matter to the Police, she complained of being in pain and that she had bruises on her left elbow, right palm and knees.
He shares that, earlier, the victim reported the matter to the suspect’s family who referred her to the village headman who then advised her to get medical help and report the matter to the police.
“Police issued her with a medical report form and referred her to the hospital for further examination and treatment,” Mweemba said.
He says police have since intensified efforts to locate and arrest the suspect who is on the run.
