Voting is underway and peaceful at Shifwankula Primary School in Katuba Constituency of Chibombo district with hundreds of voters turning up to cast their votes as early as 04:00 hours.

The school houses 7 polling stations with the first polling station having opened at 06:50hrs while last polling station opened at 08:36hrs.

The delay in opening the last polling station is attributed to some logistical challenges.

Shifwankula Polling Station number 1 Presiding Officer, Robert Shimukumi, said 15 voters had cast their votes by 07:15hrs out of 915 registered voters.

And 17 voters had cast their votes by 07:43 hours at Shifwankula Polling Station number 7.

Meanwhile, voting is going on well and peacefully with long queues of voters lined up to cast their votes for their preferred candidates in today’s General Elections.

Most voters have expressed happiness with the peaceful manner of the voting process.

One of the voters, Rebecca Mwale, said she is happy with the peaceful atmosphere which has enabled her to cast her vote in a conducive environment.

Ms Mwale has urged citizens to continue voting peacefully and uphold the peace that the country has enjoyed over the years.

Andrew Banda, also a voter, however, expressed concern that people arrived early at the polling station but had to wait for some time to cast their votes.
