Voting has commenced today, with citizens casting ballots for Presidential, Parliamentary, Mayoral and Local Government candidates.

In Kabwata Constituency, a ZANIS News crew visited Libala Primary School, Libala Secondary School, Yotham Muleya and St. Patrick Primary Schools and found a good turnout of voters queuing to cast their ballots.

At Libala Secondary School, voting is taking place in seven streams.

Kawambwa Stream Presiding Officer, Margaret Musenge, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, saying 20 people had cast their votes by 06:30 hours.

Ms Musenge said the voting process was progressing well.

Meanwhile, one of the first voters at Libala Secondary School’s Nkonde Stream, Anthony Chilengi, expressed satisfaction at exercising his constitutional right to vote.

Mr Chilengi also commended the peaceful atmosphere characterising the voting process in Kabwata region.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) stipulates that polling stations open at 06:00 hours and will close at 18:00 hours in the evening.

After polling closes, counting of ballots will commence at polling stations, with results for councilors and Members of Parliament being declared at the respective levels, while the presidential results will be announced at the National Election Results Centre at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

According to the ECZ, more than 8.7 million registered voters are expected to participate in today’s General Elections.
