The United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Saise Parliamentary election in Mbala district.

United Party for National Development candidate Remmy Sikazwe has won the seat after polling 5,055 votes narrowly beating his closest Nathan Sinkala of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity, who secured 4,913 votes.

Saise Constituency Returning Officer Joseph Mulenga, declared Mr Sikazwe as duly elected winner at 03:20 hours this morning

The victory makes Mr Sikazwe the first Member of Parliament for the newly established Saise Constituency.

In his victory message, Mr Sikazwe pledged to work closely with the people of Saise Constituency and focus on addressing their needs and priorities.

He thanked the people who supported his campaign and called for unity following the election, promising to serve all residents regardless of how they voted.

Meanwhile, the United Party for National Development has won two of the five local government seats in the constituency, while the remaining three were won by the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity.

Saise Constituency has more than 25,000 registered voters.
