The United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the Mambwe Council Chairperson seat in the just ended general elections.

Mambwe District Returning Officer David Mwansa duly declared Henry Mwape as the winner.

Henry Mwape got 9,868 votes, beating his closest rival Stephen Zulu of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) who polled 9,656 votes.

A total of five candidates were contesting the position.

Weston Mwanza, an independent candidate came in third position with 4,821 votes, Lloyd Mwale another independent candidate taking fourth position with 3,110 votes and lastly, Zephania Kaleya of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) with 2,338 votes.

A total of 30,717 votes were cast out of which 924 ballot papers were rejected.
