232 ViewsThe United Party for National Development UPND candidate Nosiku Saboi has just won the Salunda Ward elections in Liuwa Constituency, Kalabo.
This comes before even a single vote in the 2026 general election is cast.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) announced Saboi as the legally elected councillor for Salunda Ward in the Western Province area.
This was after the candidate went through the nomination filing process completely unopposed.
According to the ECZ, the declaration was made by by Salunda Ward returning officer Derrick Kanyamba, acting in accordance with Regulation 18 of the Electoral (General) Regulations, 2016.
Kanyamba highlighted that only a single valid nomination paper was filed during the appointed filing period, hence the declaration.
Since no other candidates presented their nomination papers to contest the seat, the ECZ has since canceled the voting process for the area.
“I therefore declare that Nosiku Saboi is returned unopposed as a Councillor for Salunda Ward,” Kanyamba stated in the official declaration. Saboi’s term as councillor is legally set to take effect on August 13, 2026.
