The United Party for National Development (UPND) has scooped the new-created Bwacha South parliamentary seat in Kabwe District after beating the National Reconciliation Party for National Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) in a tightly-contested election.
Immediate, past Bwacha Member of Parliament, Sydney Mushanga, of UPND polled 12,813 votes against Victor Kolala of NRPUP who garnered 11, 126 votes.
Returning Officer, Phizio Chidakwa, declared Mr Mushanga duly elected Member of Parliament for Bwacha South Constituency at 18:00 hours.
“I further declare that a total of 264 ballot papers have been rejected and a total 24,203 votes were cast,” said Mr Chidakwa.
The Bwacha South parliamentary seat was contested by the two candidates.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Mushanga thanked the UPND leadership and the electorate for their support.
“It has been a rough journey in the last 90 days but God has again made it possible for me to scoop the seat for the fourth time. The focus now is to deliver the much needed development for the benefit of the people of Bwacha South,” Mr Mushanga said.
Bwacha South Constituency has 42,863 registered voters.
