The streets of Matero Constituency are filled with excitement and joy as UPND’s Alexander Mumba Sakala finally scoops the Matero Parliamentary Seat after a tense and closely watched counting process.

The race was surrounded by confusion after Patrick Salubusa initially took an early lead, with the situation escalating on social media following an alleged post attributed to Sakala conceding defeat. Ballot counting was later suspended before resuming as stakeholders sought clarity.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia has now officially declared Sakala duly elected after he polled 24,129 votes, beating Resolute Party candidate Patrick Salubusa, who polled 18,614 votes.

The official declaration brings an end to the uncertainty, with the ballots now speaking for themselves.
