A 25-year-old woman identified as Lisa Mutalu has died suddenly in Lusaka after reportedly becoming unconscious at her residence in the early hours of Thursday.

The Zambia Police Service confirmed the death in a press statement issued on August 20, 2026, saying Chelstone Police Station received the report at around 09:30 hours.

Police said the incident occurred between approximately 03:30 and 04:30 hours at Victoria Hospital in Lusaka, where Mutalu was taken for medical attention.

According to the preliminary police report, Mutalu had spent the evening of August 19 in the company of two female friends at a named hotel where she served as an ambassador.

At around 22:30 hours, the three women reportedly proceeded to another drinking place in Lusaka, where they continued socialising.

Police said that between 02:30 and 03:00 hours on August 20, Mutalu’s boyfriend, identified as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, arrived and picked up the three women.

He reportedly dropped the two friends in the Minestone/Casanova area before remaining with Mutalu, with whom he was reportedly staying in the Kalundu area.

Upon arriving at their residence, Mutalu allegedly began vomiting before becoming unconscious.

Her boyfriend is reported to have contacted a friend who assisted in taking her to Victoria Hospital. However, police said she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Following the report, police officers processed both the primary and secondary scenes as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death began.

Mutalu’s body was initially deposited at FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police have stated that no physical injuries were observed on the body.

An inquiry file has since been opened, and investigations are continuing to establish what led to the sudden death of the 25-year-old.

Police have not indicated the cause of death, and further details are expected after the postmortem examination and other investigations are completed.

The Zambia Police Service has urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed as officers work to establish the circumstances surrounding Mutalu’s death.

Further information is expected to be released as investigations progress.

The statement was issued by Zambia Police Service Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha.
