GOVERNMENT has expressed regret over the death of former Minister of Works and Transport Mutotwe Kafwaya.

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa extended condolences to the Kafwaya family on Wednesday. He said government would make no further comment as the matter is under investigation by law enforcement agencies. Mr. Kangwa also condemned what he described as “reckless statements” made by some individuals following the conclusion of the 2026 Presidential General Election, calling for harm or the assassination of President Hakainde Hichilema. “Such statements are not only highly unpatriotic but are also criminal in nature and will be dealt with firmly and in accordance with the laws of Zambia,” he said. He urged citizens to use social media responsibly “to inform, unite and build our nation, rather than to divide and destroy it.” “Zambia belongs to all of us. Let us protect its peace, unity and stability for ourselves and for future generations,” Mr. Kangwa said. The Secretary to the Cabinet further expressed concern over “heightened vitriol and trolling” between the two sides of the political divide, saying the conduct was unhealthy to efforts to preserve peace and unity. “Zambia has, over the years, been an envy of others for the maturity with which she handles post-election results,” he said. “All Zambians know that, when all is said and done, the whole country galvanises itself around the leader chosen by the majority. The elected leader becomes the President of not only those who voted for him or her, but also those who did not.” Advertisement Advertise here Reach readers inside premium article pages.
