VETERAN politician and diplomat Vernon Mwaanga has finally spoken out about his son Mainga’s controversial presence on social media.

Mr Mwaanga admitted that his control over his son slipped away decades ago.

Speaking on the Kenny  podcast, Mr Mwaanga expressed deep disappointment with Mainga’s digital footprint.

He revealed that every time Mainga trends online, his phone blows up with WhatsApp videos sent by eager onlookers.

Despite the constant public noise, the retired diplomat reminded the public that his son was a grown man capable of making his own choices.

The admission highlighted the modern parental nightmare: watching a grown child chase internet clout while the family legacy took the hit.

“Mainga is 59 years old, I cannot control his life. He controls his own life,” Mr Mwaanga stated. “If that is the life he has chosen, so be it.”

The veteran statesman revealed he confronts Mainga directly during family encounters, demanding a shift in maturity.

“When I meet Mainga, I always tell him, ‘What you’re doing is very wrong. At your age, you should be giving advice to your young brothers,’” Mr Mwaanga shared.

Mr Mwaanga believes a man entering his sixties should act as a generational guide, not a social media character.

He hoped the upcoming milestone could finally bring a shift in behaviour, though he acknowledged the ultimate choice rested in his son’s hands.

Whether the upcoming milestone birthday will spark a digital retirement for Mainga remains to be seen.

For now, the diplomat can only watch from the sidelines as his son navigates the chaotic world of online notoriety.
