Voters in Shiwang’andu district, Muchinga Province have turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots in the 2026 general elections with some voters forming queues as early as 04:00 hours.

A check at Mukwikile One and Mukwikile Two polling stations at exactly 04:00 hours found voters already lined up, eager to exercise their democratic right.

Mukwikile polling station has more than 1,020 registered voters, and by 10:00 hours, about 560 voters had already cast their ballots at both polling stations.

While some polling stations visited have also recorded long queues in the early hours while the voting process at other polling stations remained relatively normal, with voters arriving throughout the morning.

And electorates have expressed satisfaction with the peaceful environment prevailing during the 2026 general elections, saying they are able to exercise their democratic right without fear or intimidation.

One of the voters, Chanda Mutale, commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.

 He said the calm atmosphere has encouraged many people to turn up and cast their votes freely.

For other voters, election day has largely been business as usual, with residents arriving at polling stations at different times to cast their ballots.

Voting is expected to continue until the designated closing time at 18:00 hours, after which the counting of ballots will commence at the respective polling stations.

The constituency has 92 polling stations and 42,516 registered voters.
