Serenje District Commissioner, Ellen Mibenge, has urged workers in the area to embrace the “Keep Serenje Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign” as part of efforts to keep the town clean.

Ms Mibenge says every worker should participate in the campaign as part of the Government’s efforts to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with Government workers, Ms Mibenge said a clean environment is a catalyst for human and socio-economic development, as healthy citizens are more productive.

“The Keep Serenje Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign aims to involve every citizen of Serenje, not just the Council. Let us all participate in cleaning our surroundings to help prevent outbreaks of diseases in the district,” she said.

Ms Mibenge observed that some workers were using the campaign as an excuse for reporting late for work on Fridays.

The DC further expressed disappointment with some companies, traders and local residents who have continued to shun the exercise, which is aimed at promoting the development of the district.

She said authorities will seriously consider sanctioning business owners and workers who refuse to participate in the campaign.

The Keep Serenje Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign is conducted every Friday from 08:00 hours to 10:00 hours to promote environmental sustainability, public health and community development.
