The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Manager, Eugen Chisha, has called on drivers transporting Munada traders and goods to strictly observe the road traffic rules and regulations in order to help reduce road traffic accidents in Mpika District.

Mr Chisha expressed concern over vehicles that ferry Munada traders saying transporters frequently overload and disregard traffic regulations, particularly during night-time as they transport traders to various parts of the district, thereby putting their lives at risk.

He said such practices not only endangered the lives of traders and their property but also poses a serious threat to other road users.

Mr Chisha said this during a road safety sensitisation meeting for Munada traders and transporters in Mpika District.

“As people continue to travel using various modes of transport, road safety remains critical in preventing road traffic accidents,” he said.

Mr Chisha explained that RTSA had launched the sensitisation campaign to promote road safety awareness among Munada drivers and motorbike riders operating in the district.

He said the programme was intended to instil discipline, responsibility and compliance with road traffic laws among transporters.

Mr Chisha further urged motorists and motorbike riders to observe traffic regulations at all times, noting that adherence to the law would safeguard their lives and those of other road users.

He added that RTSA will continue engaging stakeholders in the transport sector to enhance compliance with road traffic regulations and curb accidents associated with Munada transport activities.

Meanwhile, Mpika District Munada Driver’s Association Chairperson, Simon Mwila, has welcomed the road safety sensitisation initiative, describing it as timely and important.

Mr Mwila said the programme would help reduce road traffic accidents in the district and urged his fellow drivers to take the messages seriously by complying with all traffic regulations whenever they were on the road.

And Mpika Traffic Motorbike Coordinator, Brain Malekani, has appealed to his fellow riders to strictly observe road traffic rules at all times.

Mr Malekani said motorbike riders have a responsibility to promote road safety and urged them to avoid reckless riding, especially when transporting passengers and goods to and from Munada markets among other areas.
