The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has congratulated President –elect Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election for a second term.

In a statement issued to the media by FFTUZ President, Muyaywá Kabisa said the Federation, its affiliates and workers recognised the confidence that Zambians had placed in the President and his leadership.

Dr Kabisa noted that the trust placed in President Hichilema reflected high expectations from the Presidency and a desire for improved governance and national development.

He urged the Government to build on the gains made during the first term, particularly in sustaining economic growth, creating employment and reducing poverty.

Dr Kabisa added that economic progress should translate into meaningful improvements in the living standards of ordinary citizens.

He called for greater focus on inclusive development to ensure that the benefits of economic growth are broadly shared.

Dr Kabisa said workers expected the President’s second term to deliver improved salaries, better conditions of service, decent employment and stronger social protection.

He stated that workers also expected to meaningfully benefit from the economic growth to which they contribute.

Dr Kabisa reaffirmed FFTUZ’s commitment to constructive social dialogue with Government, employers and other social partners in promoting decent work, social justice, economic development and national unity.

He wished President Hichilema and his team a successful second term and pledged the Federation’s continued cooperation in advancing the interests of workers and the people of Zambia.
