In a statement issued on Thursday, Mr. Tembo said the decision followed “careful consideration and extensive consultations with family and friends.”
Today marks 10 years since he founded PeP.
“Even though I did not succeed to be elected to any public office in the past 10 years, I stand proud of the political contributions that I have made thus far,” Mr. Tembo said. He cited the party’s annual Alternative National Budgets and “extensive jurisprudence on political cases” in the High Court and Constitutional Court of Zambia as key contributions.
Mr. Tembo said he was grateful for the friendships formed during his political career and thanked those who believed in and supported him.
“As I transition to private life, I shall keep on praying for God the Almighty to keep blessing our Nation, Zambia,” he said.
