ZAMBIA international striker Patson Daka has joined Bundesliga club Hamburger SV on a free transfer, weeks after his contract with Leicester City expired.

Daka, 27, spent five seasons at Leicester. The club and player opted not to renew the deal when it expired in June.

Hamburger SV have officially unveiled Daka.

“With the signing of Patson, we have strategically strengthened our attack,” HSV sporting director Kathleen Krüger said in a statement. “He’s a center forward who perfectly fits our requirements. He demonstrates a high level of commitment both on and off the ball and consistently puts the team first.

“At the same time, he brings a wealth of experience at the international level. We are convinced that Patson’s qualities will be an immediate asset to our team, and we are delighted to welcome him to HSV.”

Daka said he was eager to get started in Germany.

“I’m delighted to be here now and can’t wait to get started,” Daka said. “I’m a passionate and energetic player whose job it is to score goals. I think that’s exactly how I can help the team.

“I watched a few HSV games. It’s an exciting team, and I’m happy to now be a part of it. The club’s management gave me a very warm welcome and made me feel like I belonged here from the very beginning. The whole package made perfect sense to me right away, so I didn’t have to think about it for long. The many positive conversations made the decision easy.”
