The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has declared, Chola Chilumba, of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) as the newly elected Mpika Council Chairperson.
Mr Chilumba scooped the Council Chairperson seat after polling 26,287 votes in the August 13 General Elections.
His closest rival, Samuel Kabungo, of the United Party for National Development (UPND), polled 5,836 votes, while Abraham Kasonde of the Resolute Party (RP) came third with 1,803 votes.
Mpika District Returning Officer, Samuel Musenga, declared Mr Chilumba as duly elected Council Chairperson for Mpika District.
Mr Musenga said 37,046 votes were cast in the Council Chairperson election, of which 1,151 ballots were rejected as invalid.
Meanwhile, the NRPUP has scooped up all seven wards from Mpika North constituency.
The NRPUP has also scooped three wards in Mpika South constituency and one ward has been scooped by an independent.
The fifth ward in Mpika South was won by an NRPUP candidate who collapsed and died after voting on poll day.
Mpika District has 12 wards, seven in Mpika North and five from Mpika South.
