National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP), Alexander Chiteme, has been declared the duly elected Member of Parliament for Nkana Constituency in Kitwe District after securing 19,344 votes.

Mr Chiteme defeated his closest rival, United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Francis Mukuka, who polled 9,359 votes.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Returning Officer, Beatrice Muyila, declared Chiteme the winner during the official declaration at Kitwe Boys Secondary School, Nkana Constituency Totaling Centre.

Mrs Muyila said a total of 31,830 votes were cast, while 585 ballot papers were rejected as invalid.

Speaking after his victory, Mr Chiteme said he will focus on completing development projects that he started during his previous term as Member of Parliament between 2016 and 2021.

He said the projects include construction of public toilets in various townships, a clinic at St. Anthony including a water project in Luyando.

“I am very grateful to the people of Nkana for giving me another opportunity to serve them. My focus now is to continue with the development projects we started and ensure that the people benefit from them,” Mr Chiteme said.

Meanwhile, several candidates have also been declared duly elected as councilors in various wards of Nkana Constituency.

In Mukuba Ward, NRPUP Candidate, Bezika Rodgers, emerged victorious with 3,796 votes, defeating United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Simukoko Graddy, who polled 1,061 votes.

A total of 47 ballot papers were rejected.

In Buchi Ward, NRPUP Candidate, Manda Masoka, was declared duly elected after securing 3,888 votes, ahead of UPND candidate Mofya Kamfwa, who polled 1,839 votes.

Speaking after their victories, Bezika Rodgers and Manda Masoka thanked the people of their respective wards for voting for them and trusting them with the responsibility to represent them.

The two councilors pledged to work closely with residents to address their needs and promote development.
