The gap between the two leading contenders in Zambia’s 2026 Presidential Election has widened to nearly one million votes.According to the latest figures released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, results from 192 of the country’s 226 constituencies show President Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND leading with 2,430,702 votes.
His closest rival, NRPUP leader Brian Mundubile, is trailing with 1,461,457 votes.
This puts President Hichilema ahead by 969,245 votes.
ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis announced the figures this evening and said the Commission will return later tonight with another update.
The results remain provisional as the Commission continues with the verification and announcement process.
