National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity candidate Raphael Chilufya has won the Mbala Central Parliamentary seat.

Mr Chilufya was declared winner after polling 8,323 votes beating his closest rival Annie Namonga of the United Party for National Development who polled 5,890 votes.

Mbala Central Constituency Returning Officer Paul Chipulu declared Mr Chilufya the winner.

And the Citizen First candidate Alphonsal Mulenga secured 480 votes, while the Socialist Party candidate Remmy Mulwanda polled 253 votes.

Mr Chipulu further declared that a total of 15,270 votes were cast with 324 ballot papers rejected as invalid.

Meanwhile, National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity Mayoral candidate Simutenda Steward emerged victorious after polling 12,382 votes.

The declaration was made following the conclusion of the counting and totaling of votes in the constituency.

And in Lunte District, all the 70 polling stations in Lunte Constituency have successfully delivered their results to the totalling centre.

As of mid-morning, Lunte District Electoral Officer Jonathan Mwanza confirmed that results from 44 out of the 70 polling stations had been verified and announced, as the verification process continues.

The atmosphere at the centre remains peaceful, with stakeholders patiently observing the verification process.

Lunte Constituency has a total of 33,670 registered voters.
