Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu has been accorded a massive welcome in Eastern Province as he raps up campaigns ahead of the August 13, 2026 general elections.

With exactly nine days to go before polling day, Njobvu was on Monday in Sinda and Petauke districts where hundreds of residents turned out to greet him.

Women and youth walked alongside the DU entourage, singing songs of joy. Many locals told party officials that Eastern Province needed “their own” as President.

The crowds chanted and waved DU flags as the campaign motorcade moved through the districts.

Njobvu also paid a courtesy call on Senior Chief Mbang’ombe of the Chewa-speaking people in Katete District.

“Today, I paid a courtesy call on Chief Mbangombe of the Chewa speaking people of Katete District. I assured him that the country will be in safe hands under my leadership. It will get unprecedented development as we establish the Chiefdom Transformation Fund,” Njobvu said.

The Chiefdom Transformation Fund, he explained, is a DU policy aimed at driving direct development in chiefdoms across the country.

Later, the DU leader met with various traditional leaders.

They told him that lack of adequate and timely delivery of farming inputs remains one of the biggest challenges farmers in the region are facing.

They also disclosed that many subjects are struggling with access to safe and clean water, and that bad roads make it hard to transport farm produce to markets.

Njobvu said the Democratic Union has a transformative agenda for the country and urged the community to vote for DU for “a new and better Zambia.”

The DU President’s tour of Eastern Province is in line with the Electoral Commission of Zambia campaign calendar.

The party is expected to continue with rallies and community meetings in other districts in the province before moving to other regions in the remaining days ahead of the elections.
