LUSAKA — NRP-UP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has won more of the constituencies contained in the latest detailed batch of results, but President Hakainde Hichilema maintains a substantial overall lead in the figures available for the two leading candidates.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has so far consolidated presidential results from 27 constituencies, including constituencies announced during the previous results announcement Friday night, 14th August 2026.

However, the detailed constituency-by-constituency figures available for comparison between Hichilema and Mundubile cover 23 constituencies.

Across those 23 constituencies, Mundubile has won 14 while Hichilema has carried nine.

Despite winning fewer constituencies, Hichilema has accumulated significantly more votes because of large margins in his strongest areas, particularly Southern Province.

The detailed figures give Hichilema 221,033 votes against Mundubile’s 147,495, giving the incumbent a lead of 73,538 votes in the 27 constituencies.

Hichilema’s strongest performances include Kalomo South, where he secured 23,802 votes against Mundubile’s 83; Monze East, where he polled 22,523 against 429; Dundumwezi, where he recorded 22,043 against 46; and Magoye East, where he received 19,738 against Mundubile’s 148.

Mundubile, meanwhile, recorded strong performances across parts of Luapula, Eastern, Copperbelt and Northern provinces.

His notable victories include Mwansabombwe, where he polled 11,812 against Hichilema’s 4,456; Mambilima, where he secured 8,425 against 4,309; Kankoyo, where he received 9,332 against 4,684; and Konkola, where he recorded 9,983 against Hichilema’s 7,458.

In Eastern Province, Mundubile also won Malambo West with 8,088 votes against Hichilema’s 5,724, Chipangali West with 7,862 against 3,353, Malambo East with 9,074 against 6,191 and Nyimba North with 8,475 against 2,885.

Hichilema’s other notable victories include Chongwe East in Lusaka, where he polled 17,114 against Mundubile’s 8,807, Mumbwa Central with 18,225 against 1,923, and Kasempa-Mufwashi in North-Western Province, where he recorded 10,512 against Mundubile’s 564.

The figures highlight a significant feature of the early presidential count: Mundubile is demonstrating wider geographical competitiveness, while Hichilema is building a larger vote advantage through overwhelming margins in constituencies where he is strongest.

Based on the 23 detailed constituencies, Hichilema accounts for approximately 59.97 percent of the combined votes of the two candidates, while Mundubile has approximately 40.03 percent.

However, these percentages should not be interpreted as the final national result as the total results will be from 226 constituencies.

The ECZ has consolidated results from 27 constituencies so far, meaning that four constituencies within the overall ECZ tally are not represented in the detailed 23-constituency breakdown used for this analysis.

The 73,538-vote margin therefore applies specifically to the 23 constituencies for which the individual Hichilema and Mundubile figures have been provided. It should not be presented as the margin across all 27 consolidated constituencies.

The emerging results nevertheless point to a contest in which geographical spread and winning margins are becoming increasingly important.

Mundubile is taking constituencies in several provinces, particularly in the north and east, while Hichilema continues to command substantial margins in Southern Province and remains competitive in parts of Lusaka, Central and North-Western provinces.

With counting and consolidation continuing, the national picture remains subject to change as more constituency results are received and verified by the ECZ.

The final presidential result will only be established after the ECZ completes the verification and consolidation process at the national tallying centre.
