Former long serving politician Garry Nkombo has lost the Mazabuka Central Parliamentary race to UPND candidate Vincent Lilanda.

Nkombo got 10,720 votes while Lilanda polled 20,420 of the 33,218 votes cast at 88 polling stations in Mazabuka Central Constituency.

Nkombo was seeking a fifth re-election as Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament, this time as an independent candidate after serving four consecutive terms under the UPND.

Mr Nkombo who also served government at Minister of Local Government and Rural Development during his tenure as Mazabuka Central MP experienced a fall out with the UPND and resigned from the party before contesting the 2026 elections as an independent candidate.

However, he has lost the parliamentary election which was contested alongside Alfred Hankede and Playson Hachintu who were also independent candidates, and Masumba Denwield of the Socialist Party.
