Two persons have been seriously injured in a road traffic accident involving a motor vehicle and a motorbike in Mambwe district in the Eastern province.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, said 17-year-old, Teddy Zulu, a motorbike rider of Chikalaba village sustained a fractured right leg, a fractured right hand, cuts on the face and general body pains while 14-year-old Isaac Tembo, of Chiutika village, a pillion, sustained a fractured right leg, bruised shoulder and general body pains.

“Brief facts of the incident are that on Tuesday 18th August 2026, at Masumba area along the Chipata-Mfuwe road, a Gatoma Motorbike Registration Number ARC 2033 being ridden by Teddy Zulu turned left without due care and thereby hitting into the oncoming vehicle, a Hino Dutro Motor vehicle registration number BCC 8065 being driven by 35-year-old Pardon Ngándu of Gondar Barracks,” he Mr Mweemba explained.

He said the two people on the motorbike fell down and sustained serious injuries while the driver of the motor vehicle escaped unhurt.

“The motor vehicle driver escaped unhurt however, the vehicle had its front right lens broken and a deformed door on the right on the driver’s side while the damage on the motorbike is unknown as it was hidden by the owner after the accident.

Mr Mweemba said the two injured persons were admitted to Mambwe district hospital.
