A 32-year-old motorbike rider was yesterday attacked and robbed of his motorcycle by two unknown men in Katopola area of Chipata district.

The incident occurred around 18:00 hours and was reported at Nabvutika Police Post, under Chipata Central Police Station around 19:30 hours.

Zambia Police Service Eastern Province Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, identified the victim as Gift Mbao of Mchenga compound.

Mr Mweemba said Mbao was hired by the two suspects to transport them to Katopola area.

He said upon reaching Katopola, one of the passengers instructed Mbao to stop the motorbike before the other one produced a screwdriver and attacked him, inflicting a deep cut near the left ear.

Mr Mweemba explained that the victim became unconscious following the attack and, upon regaining consciousness a few minutes later, he discovered that his blue Savaja motorbike, valued at K28,000, had been stolen.

He said some people who passed near the scene contacted another motorbike rider who transported Mbao to Nabvutika Police Post, where he reported the matter.

Mr Mweemba said the victim was later issued with a police medical report form and is currently admitted to St. Luke’s Mission Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

He said police have since commenced investigations, while making efforts to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen motorbike.
