Zambia : Re-elected MPs Pledge Continued Development

Re-elected Members of Parliament have pledged to continue driving development in their constituencies, with emphasis on infrastructure, social services and empowerment programmes under the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Bwana Mkubwa MP, Warren Mwambazi, says his major priority is to enhance road infrastructure development.

He stated that a Level One Hospital is already functional and awaiting commissioning, while a maternity annex and police station are under construction, pledging to ensure phase two of the projects are complete within the shortest possible time.

He explained that the constituency has embarked on the construction of roads covering 10.4 kilometers, which has faced delays, explaining that this will now be implemented as an immediate project.

“So these are some of the infrastructure developments which we quickly want to run with to ensure that we open up our constituency in terms of road network”, the Bwana Mkubwa law maker noted.

And in a Separate Interview, Chingola West MP, Chipoka Mulenga, stated that continued development will remain his focus, covering infrastructure, health, education, and social amenities.

He acknowledged gaps in facilities, noting that Chingola West lacked a mini hospital, a boarding school and a well-structured secondary school.

He pledged to work towards establishing these, while also addressing youth unemployment through socio-economic empowerment programmes, in line with President Hichilema’s ‘Grow Zambia’ agenda.

Mr Mulenga further indicated that his preoccupation was to identify sustainable and viable economic activities for the people, expressing confidence that resources were available to achieve these goals.

Meanwhile, Chiyenge MP, Favourite Musangu who was elected for the first time identified the Kashikishi-Luchinda road as her priority for completion.

She explained that the contractor was already on site emphasising that the upgrade of the road to bituminous standard will unlock the constituency’s vast natural resources and facilitate cross-border trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ms Musangu also highlighted youth unemployment as a pressing issue, noting that many were forced to travel outside the district for skills training.

She pledged to establish a training institute within Chienge, to motivate young people, while also empowering women and youths through loans and grants under CDF.

“The other issue which my constituents here experience is the challenge of safe drinking water. The way forward is that people should have access to safe drinking water. We want to have as many water schemes as possible so that people have access to safe drinking water”, she said.
