Milenge Boarding Secondary School has introduced targeted learning strategies aimed at raising its academic performance from 72 percent recorded last year to more than 90 percent in 2026.

Milenge Boarding Secondary School Headteacher, Bonwell Chama stated that the institution has devised performance enhancement interventions that include starting lessons on the first day of the term, teacher preparation and additional support for learners experiencing academic difficulties.

“First day we go straight into teaching so that we don’t miss an hour. And that in itself is helping the school to get the results,” Mr Chama said.

He said the school also conducts remedial lessons for learners who are struggling academically, with teachers providing additional support based on their educational needs.

Mr Chama explained that Grade 12 learners will have additional lessons from 15:00 hours, with the learners grouped according to their performance to address their specific academic needs.

“We want to concentrate and see what kind of material we should give to those who are at 0 to 30, and what kind of material we should also give to those who are at 30 to 45 and those scoring 45 and above,” he said.

Mr Chama said the targeted approach would help prevent slower learners from falling behind while ensuring that high-performing learners receive appropriate academic support.

He expressed confidence that the interventions would enable the school to achieve its target of more than 90 percent this year.

Mr Chama cited former learner, Doris Mona, who emerged as the best-performing girl-pupil among CAMFED-sponsored learners in last year’s mock examinations and later scored six points at Grade 12, as evidence that the school can produce outstanding results despite being located in a rural district.
