Lusangazi civic leaders sworn-in, urged to improve service delivery

The newly elected Lusangazi civic leaders led by the Chairperson, Geoffrey Daka, have officially assumed office after taking the Oath of Office.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lusangazi Civic Centre and was presided over by Resident Magistrate Misozi Banda, who administered the oath to the newly elected local government leaders.

His Royal Highness Chief Sandwe was also in attendance.

The immediate past Council Chairperson, Blackson Tembo, congratulated the newly elected Chairperson and councillors, urging them to work as a united team in addressing the developmental challenges in the district.

Mr Tembo encouraged the new Council leadership to build on the achievements of the previous administration, work closely with Council Management and staff, and remain committed to improving service delivery.

He further urged the councillors to put the interests of the people above political and personal differences.

Meanwhile, newly sworn-in Council Chairperson Geoffrey Daka described his election as a profound responsibility entrusted to him by the people of Lusangazi.

He thanked the electorate for their confidence and extended a hand of friendship to residents who may not have supported him and other councillors during the elections.

He said the conclusion of the August 13, 2026 General Election should mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation and development.

“We are now one Council, one community, and one Lusangazi,” Mr Daka said.

He pledged to lead the Council based on good governance, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and dedicated service.

He also said the new administration would prioritise improved service delivery, including roads, water supply, sanitation, health and education infrastructure, markets, waste management and community facilities.

Mr Daka also said the Council would support initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people, women, farmers, entrepreneurs and vulnerable groups.

And Mr Daka called on Council Management and staff to serve residents with professionalism, integrity and dedication, while urging residents to participate actively in development programmes, protect public infrastructure and maintain clean communities.

He further pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Council and traditional leaders in promoting peace, unity, cultural values and community development.

Council Secretary Sekani Tembo described the swearing-in ceremony as a significant milestone in the democratic journey of Lusangazi District.

Mr Tembo urged the councillors to recognise their election as a responsibility to serve as voices of their respective communities.

He called for unity across political parties, wards, traditional leadership structures and communities, saying the aspirations of residents could only be realised through collective effort.

The ceremony was attended by Council Management and staff, Government representatives, political and community leaders, members of the clergy, traditional leaders, the media among other invited guests.
