A businessman from Manyinga District in North-Western Province has drowned in the Kabompo River.

Kabompo District Commissioner Hubert Chinyanga said the incident occurred on September 20, 2026, at around 16:40 hours.

Mr Chinyanga said, according to a police report lodged by 28-year-old Morgan Dikomeno of Vilembulika Village in Chief Sikufele’s area of Manyinga District, the deceased drowned while swimming in the river.

He identified the deceased as Charles Kambita, a businessman from Malukuchila Village in Chief Sikufele’s area, who is believed to have been aged between 30 and 35.

Mr Chinyanga said Mr Kambita had travelled from Manyinga to Kabompo with four friends, including Mr Dikomeno, to swim in the river.

“The now deceased person came from Manyinga to Kabompo District with his four friends but whilst swimming the deceased person was swept away by the strong current of the river and failed to swim back to safety and drowned,” he said.

Mr Chinyanga said efforts to retrieve the body had so far failed as it had gone underwater.

He said a search party had since been constituted to recover the body.
