United Party for National Development (UPND) parliamentary candidate Stanley Kakubo has returned his seat after amassing 8,509 votes while beating his closest rival Jackline Nkausu an independent candidate who got 2,932 votes.

Berlington Mubanga of NRPUP got 2,858 votes, while Kelvin Muyowe, another independent candidate only managed to get 1,024 votes.

Kapiri West Constituency returning officer Collety Muleya declared Mr Kakubo as dully elected Member of Parliament for Kapiri Mposhi west at exactly 22: 30hrs.

Ms Muleya disclosed that a total of 15,966 votes were cast and stated that 643 votes were rejected.

At the local government level, the UPND has scooped 16 of the 18 local government seats in Kapiri Mposhi District.

The party has won all seven wards in Kapiri Mposhi West Constituency and nine wards in Kapiri Mposhi East Constituency.
