KABOMPO District Commissioner Hubert Chinyanga has called on stakeholders in the district to adequately prepare for the El Nino conditions expected during the 2026/2027 farming season.
Mr Chinyanga was speaking in his opening remarks during a District Disaster Risk Management preparedness planning meeting held in Kabompo on Thursday.
He noted that there was a need for government departments and other stakeholders in the district to prepare for the potential impact of El Nino.
Mr Chinyanga stated that the district had experienced the devastating effects of the 2023/2024 drought, from which valuable lessons had been learnt.
“As a district, we need to prepare ourselves for the El Nino which is coming because we experienced a drought in the 2023/2024 farming season. Last time, it took us by surprise, but this time we know what is coming and it is up to us as a district to sit and plan so that we can contribute to feeding the province and the nation,” he said.
