The man who robbed a bank because he prefered to be in jail than stay home with his wife.
When I first saw these headlines, I thought it was a made up story. And then I did some digging, and yep, it happened!
In 2016, 70 year old John Ripple had an argument with his wife. He was so upset that he decided he would rather be in jail therefore escape being home with his wife.
Very clever! So, John made his plan. He wrote a note, just like in the movies, went to a bank in his Kansas city neighborhood. He handed over his note to the bank teller. Believing he had a gun, the teller gave him $2924.
To the bank teller’s surprise, this unusual bank robber sat in the lobby and patiently waited for the police.
When he was arrested, John made it clear this was his “get INTO jail card”. He just did not want to be in the same house as his wife.
Unfortunately for him, the judge sentenced him to 6 months house arrest. 😂😂😂
This story might sound strange and funny until you look at John’s medical history.
Due to surgery that John recently had, he developed clinical depression. It was not diagnosed nor managed and it manifested as extreme irritability and altered judgment.
This could have gone any number of ways. Luckily, John chose a non-violent option. Hopefully he finally received the treatment he needed.
