JAPAN Tobacco International (JTI) has handed over a newly constructed female ward at Kabamba Rural Health Centre in Serenje district to the government.

The construction of the six bed ward costed US$65,000.

The new ward is also equipped with a water reticulation system, two showers, a consultation room, a pharmacy, two toilets, two storerooms and a nursing bay. 

 JTI Operations Services Director Eileen Kaunda, said the company identified the need for improved infrastructure at the health facility through engagement with the local community and an assessment of the local context.

And Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ) Chief Operations Officer, Tyndale Kasongole, said providing healthcare services closer to communities has the potential to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many families in the area.
