Iran Threatens to Expand War Into Indian Ocean if US Launches New Attack

Iranian military adviser Yahya Rahim Safavi has warned that Iran could expand the battlefield into the Indian Ocean if the United States or Israel launches another attack against Iran.

Safavi said the conflict has already spread from the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz toward the Red Sea, warning that a further escalation could push the fighting into the Indian Ocean and beyond.

The warning marks a significant escalation in Iranian rhetoric, as the Indian Ocean hosts strategically important military facilities, including the US and British base at Diego Garcia.

The statement comes as Iranian and US representatives continue indirect discussions on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, amid efforts to prevent another escalation.

Iran has maintained that sanctions relief and the unfreezing of Iranian assets are key conditions for ending the conflict and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
