Iran lawmakers move to impeach Araghchi over talks with US officials

Iranian lawmakers have registered an impeachment motion against Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi over talks with US officials, a member of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said on Thursday.

Ali Khezrian said Araghchi did not have authorization to hold negotiations with American officials and said the contacts took place outside the framework of the Islamic Republic’s policies.

“Members of parliament have registered the impeachment of Araghchi and are pursuing it,” Khezrian said.

He said Araghchi must appear before parliament after returning from his trip and explain “on what basis this conversation with the American side took place.”
