INDIAN HOTELIER’S SUJÁN GROUP ACQUIRES TWO ZAMBIAN SAFARI CAMPS

Indian luxury hospitality group SUJÁN, founded by hotelier Jaisal Singh, has acquired Chiawa Camp and Old Mondoro in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park for an undisclosed amount.

According to Billionaires.Africa, the purchase from Chiawa Safaris was announced on Monday, September 28, 2026. Both properties are situated along the Zambezi River and will retain their names under the SUJÁN group.

The acquisition forms part of the company’s international growth strategy, with plans to more than double its portfolio over the next four years through investments aligned with its conservation and hospitality principles, Business Standard reported.

Singh, SUJÁN’s founder and chairman, said Africa’s experience in linking responsible tourism with conservation had helped inspire the investment. He described the acquisition as an extension of the company’s commitment to protecting wildlife habitats and supporting surrounding communities.

Chiawa Safaris has operated in the region for more than three decades, developing a reputation for small-scale safari tourism and conservation-focused hospitality. The two camps offer wildlife experiences within the Lower Zambezi ecosystem.

SUJÁN co-founder Anjali Singh said the group intended to build on Chiawa’s legacy while maintaining its principles of conservation and responsible stewardship. She said the company wanted its hospitality operations to contribute to ecosystem protection and opportunities for local communities.

Singh established SUJÁN’s first luxury safari camp, Sher Bagh, in India’s Ranthambhore region in 2000. The business subsequently expanded to include The Serai in Jaisalmer and JAWAI.

Although the Zambian deal represents a new acquisition outside India, SUJÁN has previously had an African presence through Elephant Pepper Camp in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, Billionaires.Africa reported.
