REBUTTAL BY SYLVIA MASEBO

I wish to categorically refute a story circulating on some media platforms alleging that I described the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as “the most corrupt institution” in the country and that I questioned the credibility of the 2026 General Elections.

At no time did I make such remarks, either publicly or privately. The statements attributed to me are completely false, misleading, and a deliberate misrepresentation of my position.

As a long serving public servant and political leader, I fully appreciate and respect the constitutional mandate of the Electoral Commission of Zambia as an independent institution established to manage the country’s electoral processes. While citizens and stakeholders have the right to raise concerns and seek clarification on electoral matters through lawful channels, it is irresponsible to fabricate statements and attribute them to public figures without verification.

I have consistently advocated for democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for institutions. Therefore, I would not undermine public confidence in a constitutional body through reckless and inflammatory language such as that falsely attributed to me.

I urge members of the public, media practitioners, and political actors to exercise caution and professionalism by verifying information before publishing or sharing it. The spread of misinformation not only damages reputations but also risks eroding public trust in our democratic institutions.

For the avoidance of doubt, I did not call the ECZ “the most corrupt institution in Zambia,” nor did I issue the quoted statements concerning the conduct of the 2026 elections.

I remain committed to promoting constructive dialogue, national unity, and the strengthening of Zambia’s democratic processes through truth, integrity, and responsible leadership.
