HICHILEMA HAS “FAKE POPULARITY,” SAYS CHABOTA MWEEMBA.
Toonse Pamodzi Alliance member and Chabaiche Movement spokesperson Chabota Mweemba has alleged that President Hakainde Hichilema’s popularity is not genuine.
Mr. Mweemba claimed that the large crowds seen at President Hichilema’s rally in Chipata were made up of people allegedly transported from different provinces to create the impression of widespread public support
According to Mr. Mweemba, the UPND is using such tactics to project popularity ahead of the general elections.
He further alleged that this is intended to influence public perception and questioned the credibility of the President’s support.
“We have seen the UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema desperately ferrying people from one province to another. When you ask those people in attendance, one will tell you they are from a certain province. Those crowds are engineered to create an impression that he is popular,” Mr. Mweemba said.
However, UPND supporters have rejected the allegations, arguing that it would be impractical to transport people between provinces within such a short period to attend multiple rallies.
They contend that the claims are an attempt by the opposition to lay the groundwork for disputing the election outcome if they are defeated.
At the time of publication, no independent evidence had been presented to substantiate Mr. Mweemba’s claims regarding the transportation of supporters or the alleged intention to influence the electoral process.
