President Hakainde Hichilema has urged residents of Mufumbwe not to forget the hardships they endured together, saying those challenges are now being transformed into national progress.

Addressing a rally in Mufumbwe, the President called on voters to turn out in large numbers for the United Party for National Development on Thursday.

He said a strong vote for the UPND would enable his administration to deliver more jobs, business opportunities and a safe, thriving mining sector.

He accused National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity presidential candidate Brian Mundubile of lying adding that he will personally supervise issuing of licenses here.

“Twasanta! Twasanta bingi mwane ba Mufumbwe for coming in thousands to our meeting today,” he told the crowd.

“We love you. We care for you. We will continue delivering for you.

“Don’t forget the difficulties we went through together. Those difficulties are now being turned into national progress.

“This coming week on Thursday go and vote for the UPND in large numbers. This will enable us create more jobs, business opportunities including safe and thriving mining.

“More agriculture support is coming. More urban and rural roads will be done.

“We truly love Zambia. We truly care for all Zambians and this is why we have been and we will continue working very hard for our motherland,” he said.

Earlier in Ikeleng’i, President Hichilema said a new honey processing plant will support honey producers in Mwinilunga and Ikeleng’i districts.

“We are getting into partnership with investors to ensure the honey processing plant is constructed here,” he told a jubilant gathering.

He also committed to the tarring of the 105-kilometer T005 Mwinilunga-Jimbe road, an international trunk road linking Mwinilunga District in North-Western Province to the Jimbe Border Post near Angola.

The President said major upgrades to the road are already underway. He described it as a crucial component of the Lobito Economic Development Corridor that will boost cross-border trade. The European Union has committed $130 million toward the upgrade, with support from the African Development Bank under the Lobito Integrated Corridor Development Project.

In addition to the road, President Hichilema announced plans to construct a modern border post at Jimbe.

“We have concluded negotiations for the Lobito corridor and apart from the Mwinilunga-Jimbe road, I am happy to announce that you people will soon have a rail line coming from Angola up to Lusaka,” he said.

The Head of State further pledged to complete the Ikeleng’i General Hospital and upgrade it to a full-fledged district hospital. He also promised to complete Boma offices and staff houses, and said government will assist Kaleni Mission Hospital to acquire title deeds.

On youth empowerment, President Hichilema announced the recruitment of all volunteer nurses present at the Ikeleng’i engagement. He said a skills training center will be constructed in the area to enable more young people to acquire various skills with sponsorship through the Constituency Development Fund.

He ended by urging the electorate to vote for the UPND to secure continued free education, an expanded social cash transfer that has been increased from K180 to K1000, more youth recruitments, and sustained peace.
